Papuan Youth from the Highlands Take Part in Nation-Building through National Flag-Raising Team Selection

Wamena, June 23, 2025 – Six outstanding students from the Papuan Highlands have been officially dispatched by the Provincial Government to represent the region in the 2025 National Selection for the Flag-Raising Troop (Paskibraka). Their participation marks a proud moment and a strong symbol of Papua’s contribution to Indonesia’s future.
The selection process, to be held in Jakarta, will determine the youth who will raise the national flag at the 80th Indonesian Independence Day celebration at the Presidential Palace on August 17, 2025.
The official send-off ceremony took place during a solemn morning assembly at the Papua Highlands Provincial Office, led by Elai Giban, Assistant II for Economic Affairs and Development. Representing the regional government, he conveyed the pride and support of the local community.
“Your presence at the national level shows that Papuan youth are capable of competing and contributing meaningfully to the nation. Bring the spirit of the highlands with you, and show discipline, unity, and leadership,” said Elai Giban in his address.
The following students will represent Papua Highlands in the 2025 National Paskibraka Selection:

• Yesica Florencia Elosak – SMA YPPK St. Thomas Wamena
• Desman Weya – SMA Negeri 1 Wamena
• Alex Day Wenda Willi – SMA PGRI Wamena
• Fransiscus X. Hisage – SMA Negeri 1 Wamena
• Bintang Melane Wakur – SMA Negeri 1 Wamena
These students are not only candidates for the national flag-raising ceremony, but also serve as youth ambassadors from Papua. They are expected to inspire others in their communities to strive for excellence and take an active role in building a better Indonesia.
The regional government expressed great confidence that the delegates will make their mark at the national level, embodying the values of dedication, unity, and service.
