Timika, Central Papua — The atmosphere of sadness enveloped Mako Brimob Battalion B Mimika when the bodies of the nation’s two best sons, Briptu (Aposthumously) Dedi Tambunan and Bharatu (Aposthumously) Kain Rerei, were paid to rest with respect, Saturday (5/17/2025). Both of them died on duty while carrying out Operation Peace Cartenz-2025 in Puncak Regency, Papua, after being attacked by an armed criminal group (KKB) last Thursday.

The evacuation process from the difficult terrain in Puncak to Timika took place with full caution and strict escort. Arriving in Timika, the two bodies were immediately taken to the Mimika Hospital for the identification process, witnessed by the family, before being officially laid to rest by their colleagues.

The military ceremony that was held became a symbol of the last tribute for the unlimited devotion of two police members who had sacrificed their lives to maintain peace in Bumi Cenderawasih. The tears of the family and colleagues accompanied the procession of handing over the bodies to be flown to their respective hometowns in Serui.

Head ofOperation Peace Cartenz-2025, Brigadier General Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., in his speech stated that the death of Briptu Dedi and Bharatu Kain was not only a loss for the institution, but also a deep sorrow for the nation.

“We not only lose members, but also brothers, children, and peace fighters. They have shown extraordinary courage in the midst of challenging terrain. We will not let their sacrifices go to waste,” said Brigadier General Faizal with emotion.

He emphasized, the Cartenz Peace Task Force will continue to fight for the realization of a safe and peaceful Papua. Law enforcement efforts against the attackers will continue to be followed up professionally and measured.

Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations for Operation Peace Cartenz-2025, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., emphasized the importance of unity in the midst of a sad atmosphere.

“We ask the public not to be provoked. Let us respect the sacrifice of these heroes by maintaining peace, not spreading hoaxes, and entrusting the legal process to the authorities. The state is here to protect all Papuan people,” said Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf.

This soring is a reminder that the struggle to realize peace in Papua cannot be separated from blood and tears. But the spirit of the fallen heroes will continue to be a flame in the steps of Operation Peace Cartenz and all Indonesian people for the sake of a better future for Papua.
