Two KKB people who killed Josep Agus Lepa died after resisting when they were about to be arrested by the Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 in Siriwo District, Nabire Regency, Central Papua on May 16, 2025.

Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Head of Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Chief Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum. said that the arrest was carried out on two KKB, namely Ham Dumupa (25) and Amoye Pigai alias Martinus Pigai who were suspected of being directly involved in the murder of the victim in the Dogiyai Regency Government Housing on May 6, 2025.
“In the process of arrest, the two perpetrators resisted by attacking members with machetes. The team gave warning shots, but because the perpetrator kept attacking, the officers took a measure of action which caused both of them to be seriously injured. On the way to RSUD Nabire, both perpetrators were declared dead,” he said.
From the results of the examination by the medical team, a plastic bag containing 11 5.56 mm caliber ammunition was found in the pants pocket of one of the perpetrators. In addition, the police also secured two machete blades, two mobile phone units (owned by the victim and perpetrator), one ID card in the name of Ham Dumupa, two motorcycle driver’s license, and 14 matches.
The identity of the first perpetrator is known as Ham Dumupa, born in Bekowa on May 13, 2000, residing in Pugatadi II Village, North Kamu District, a Christian. While the second perpetrator, Amoye Pigai, is suspected of using the alias Martinus Pigai.
Both of them are suspected to be members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) Kodap XI Odiyai-Dogiyai under the leadership of Yonatan M. Pig. From the results of checking the perpetrator’s cell phone, photos of them holding firearms and being at the headquarters with a number of other armed group members were also found.
The murder victim, Josep Agus Lepa, was found dead in the house belonging to dr. Daniel Velumangkun at Dogiyai Government Housing. At the time of the incident, the victim was guarding the house. The police suspected the motive for the murder because the perpetrator suspected the victim as a member of intelligence.
The identification of the two perpetrators was strengthened through a video circulating on the Facebook account “Putuss Pigai”, which showed their involvement in the murder.
Head of Public Relations Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Chief Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T. appealed to the public to remain calm and not easily provoked by information whose truth has not been confirmed.
“We invite the public not to be easily influenced by information whose truth is not clear and still maintain the situation of kamtibmas,” said Yusuf Sutejo.
The bodies of the two perpetrators are currently at the Nabire Hospital, waiting for the handover process to the family.
