JAYAPURA – Despite facing budget-saving policies from the central government, the Papua Provincial Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR) continues to implement several strategic projects that directly impact the local community.

Head of PUPR Papua, Amos Wenda, emphasized that activities related to essential needs of the people remain a top priority.

“Budget efficiency indeed presents significant challenges, but crucial activities that directly touch the lives of the community continue to proceed as planned,” he stated.

Projects valued under Rp 1 billion, especially those focused on improving public access, are still being carried out as part of efforts to meet community needs.

One of the key projects that remains underway is the construction of the connecting road between Biak and Supiori. Originally funded through the Special Allocation Fund (DAK), the project is now financed through the Infrastructure Transfer Fund (DTI) with a budget of Rp 10 billion.

This year, the Papua PUPR Department manages approximately Rp 100 billion in funds, which are focused on road repairs, clean water supply, and drainage improvements affected by extreme weather conditions.

Amos also explained that road management is divided according to authority. National roads, such as the Abepura–Sentani route, fall under the jurisdiction of the National Road Agency, while provincial roads are prioritized based on their urgency.

“The primary focus remains on roads that are most urgent and have a direct impact on the community,” he concluded.
