Yahukimo – The Tribal Chief of the Yalli Anggruk region, Simon Ulungge, has urged the government to temporarily halt all gold mining activities in Yahukimo Regency. His statement comes in response to another deadly attack by an armed criminal group (KKB), which claimed the lives of several gold miners.
“We deeply regret that this has happened. Therefore, we hope such incidents will not occur again. We are requesting that all mining activities be suspended until the security situation in Yahukimo is fully stabilized,” Simon Ulungge said during a press briefing in Dekai, Yahukimo, on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Simon also expressed his gratitude to the Ops Damai Cartenz 2025 Task Force and the joint TNI-Polri forces for evacuating the victims of the KKB killings. He noted that the evacuation process went smoothly thanks to the cooperation of all involved parties.
He reminded the public that a similar incident had already occurred in 2023. At that time, he had warned both the government and the community to cease illegal mining activities for the sake of everyone’s safety. However, the tragic events have now repeated themselves.
