Head Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz-2025: Batik Papua, Cultural Identity That Must Be Protected

Jayapura, February 27, 2025 – Head Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz-2025, Cheif Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., visited Sanggar Ameldi at Dock 4, Jayapura City, Thursday (27/2). This visit aims to see directly the process of making Papuan batik and give motivation to the original Papuan batik, Joni Silas Wona.

In that visit, Cheif Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo appreciates Papuan batik works that have distinctive motifs and reflect the natural wealth and culture of Papua. He emphasized the importance of maintaining and preserving Papuan batik as part of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

“Batik is one of Indonesia’s cultural heritage that has been recognized by UNESCO as Indonesia’s cultural heritage. Papuan Batik has a distinctive and unique motif, which depicts the natural wealth and culture of Papua. And this is the cultural wealth of Indonesia,” he said.

Meanwhile, Joni Silas Wona expressed her gratitude for the visit and support given. He hopes that the motivation from the Head task force Operation peace Cartenz-2025 can help increase the selling value of Papuan batik to the national and international markets.

“My hope, hopefully with this visit, it will give its own motivation so that in the future we can produce Papuan batik that has a selling value to the national and international markets,” he said.

This visit is expected to be an encouragement for Papuan batiks to continue to work and develop Papuan batik so that it is more widely known.
