Papua – The Police of the Republic of Indonesia (Polri) confirmed that the information disseminated by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) regarding the threat of genocide against the Papuan Indigenous People (OAP) by the TNI-Polri is a hoax. The National Police stated that the narrative is a baseless propaganda and aims to provoke and cause fear in the community.
Kaops Damai Cartenz, Brigadier General of Police Faizal Ramadhani, firmly denied the truth of the claim. He stated that the information was just an effort from the KKB to create unrest and build a negative perception of the security apparatus.
“We make sure that this claim is not true and has no basis for facts. This narrative is a propaganda that is spread to incite and cause hatred towards the TNI-Polri,” said Brigadier General Faizal to the media, Friday (24/01).
Brigadier General Faizal also emphasized that the TNI and Polri remain consistent in protecting all Papuan people, including Papuan Natives, from all forms of threats, including criminal acts carried out by KKB.
“TNI-Polri is in charge of protecting every citizen, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or group. We will continue to carry out operations with a measurable and humanistic legal approach to create security in Papua,” he added.
On the same occasion, Brigadier General Faizal appealed to the Papuan people not to easily believe in information that cannot be verified. He asked the public to remain calm and coordinate with the apparatus if they need security assistance.
“We appeal to the public not to be affected by the propaganda spread by KKB. Official information will only be conveyed through government and police channels. Do not be easily provoked by a narrative that aims to destroy unity,” said Brigadier General Faizal.
The Head of Public Relations of Cartenz’s Peace Operations, Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo, also conveyed that KKB often uses sensitive issues to create conflict and tarnish the image of the security apparatus.
“We ask the people of Papua to stay alert to false information. This kind of propaganda is often used to divert attention from criminal acts carried out by KKB. Stay calm, and if there is any suspicious information, immediately report it to the authorities,” said Kombes Yusuf Sutejo.
Polri together with TNI continue to commit to maintaining peace and stability in Papua. With strong synergy and humanistic approach, Cartenz Peace Ops Task Force emphasized that public safety is the top priority.
