Papua – The activities of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua have caused profound and distressing negative impacts on the lives of local communities. A series of violent acts, extortion, and intimidation carried out by the KKB have resulted in significant losses, both physically and psychologically, especially for those who have become victims.
The increase in the number of casualties, including security forces and civilians, serves as concrete evidence of the escalating violence perpetrated by the KKB. Their acts of terror and threats have disrupted the peace and daily lives of the Papuan people, leading to widespread trauma and fear across various communities.
The impact is also felt in the economic and social sectors. Many residents have suffered financial losses due to extortion and oppression by the KKB. Economic activities such as trade, agriculture, and tourism have also been disrupted due to the instability and uncertainty caused by the group.
Previously, Papua Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri revealed the significant disruptions caused by the KKB in one area,
“As a result of the KKB, communities have become victims, where they cannot access government services,” said the Police Chief in Jayapura.
To address KKB disruptions, the Police Chief mentioned that they have deployed troops. “The deployment of personnel from the Cartenz Peace Task Force is one of the steps taken to address the escalating situation,” he emphasized.
The commitment to addressing these negative impacts also involves cross-sector cooperation and active participation from the community in building social resilience. Rehabilitation programs and psychological assistance for victims, as well as efforts to raise awareness and community participation in combating KKB crimes, are crucial components of the collective strategy in facing this challenge.
