Agus Fatoni: PSU Results Must Be Accepted with an Open Heart

Jayapura – Papua’s Acting Governor, Agus Fatoni, has called on the public to maintain peace and unity following the completion of the repeat voting (Pemungutan Suara Ulang/PSU) in the Papua gubernatorial election. His appeal came after the Papua General Election Commission (KPU Papua) concluded the vote recapitulation and officially announced the results.
Speaking in Jayapura on Friday (Aug. 22), Fatoni emphasized that the vote counting and result determination had been carried out in accordance with Indonesia’s democratic mechanisms and legal framework. He reminded the public to accept the outcome with sincerity.
“Whatever the result may be, we must accept it together. This is a democratic process, and we believe that whatever is decided is God’s will. Let us continue to maintain a safe, peaceful, tolerant, and harmonious Papua that we all love,” Fatoni said.
He further urged those dissatisfied with the outcome to pursue their objections through the Constitutional Court. Fatoni also called on traditional, religious, and youth leaders to take an active role in preserving stability across the province.
“We want Papua to remain peaceful, regardless of the election outcome. All parties must safeguard unity for the future of our region,” he added.
