House of Representatives’ Commission II Urges Acceleration of Papua Pegunungan Governor’s Office Construction

Wamena – The House of Representatives’ Commission II has emphasized the importance of expediting the construction of the Papua Pegunungan Governor’s Office as a tangible symbol of an effective and accessible government for the people of eight districts in the region. This message was delivered during their recent working visit to the Core Government Area (KIPP) of Papua Pegunungan in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency.
Ahmad Dolly Kurnia, Chairman of Commission II, stated that the construction of the governor’s office is a key indicator of the success of the newly established Papua Pegunungan Province. He highlighted the significant progress achieved so far, including the development of access roads and land preparation for government facilities.
“The establishment of this governor’s office represents the presence of a government that brings services closer to the people. While we recognize the progress made, accelerating the construction remains a priority to ensure optimal public services in Papua Pegunungan,” Ahmad Dolly Kurnia remarked.
Meanwhile, Velix Wanggai, Acting Governor of Papua Pegunungan, outlined five strategic agendas during his meeting with Commission II. One of these priorities is the accelerated construction of government facilities, including the Governor’s Office, the Papua Pegunungan Regional House of Representatives (DPR), and the Papua Pegunungan People’s Assembly (MRP).
Velix proposed a special funding mechanism under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs to facilitate the swift realization of these projects. “This construction is crucial to building public trust in the newly established Papua Pegunungan Province and accelerating the improvement of community welfare in the region,” he stated.
With the establishment of a representative governor’s office, the people of Papua Pegunungan will no longer have to travel long distances to the parent province for administrative matters. The office will also enhance coordination between the provincial government and the eight regencies it serves.
Commission II reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for budget allocations to support the development of government facilities in Papua Pegunungan, ensuring that public services in the new province operate smoothly and effectively.
