Firm Action by Satgas Operation Peace Cartenz Against Police Officer Selling Ammunition in Papua Highlands

Jayapura – The Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) of Operation Peace Cartenz 2025 has once again uncovered an illegal ammunition distribution case involving a police officer. A police officer identified as Bripda LO, assigned in the Lanny Jaya area, was arrested after being proven to have sold dozens of ammunition rounds to a civilian named PW, who is affiliated with the armed criminal group (KKB) Lenggenus, led by Komari Murib.

“This demonstrates our firm commitment to taking strict action against anyone involved in supplying weapons and ammunition to the KKB, including if the perpetrator is a member of the police force. There is no room for traitors within the institution,” emphasized the Commander of Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Brigadier General Pol Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Commander Kombes Pol Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., on Monday (May 19).

Bripda LO surrendered to the Papua Regional Police on Saturday morning (May 17), after realizing his unlawful actions had been exposed. According to his confession, he has been involved in selling ammunition since 2017, with activities continuing in 2021 and resuming again this year.

PW is currently held at the Jayawijaya Police for further investigation, while Bripda LO has been officially detained at the Papua Regional Police detention center. Both are charged under Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 for possession of weapons and ammunition without proper authorization, facing penalties of death, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Chief of Operation Peace Cartenz, Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the community to avoid any involvement or assistance to the KKB networks, including the provision of weaponry and ammunition logistics.

“Supplying, selling, or brokering ammunition to armed groups not only violates the law but also endangers the safety of civilians in Papua. We urge the public to report any suspicious activities related to firearms and ammunition immediately,” said Kombes Yusuf.

This firm enforcement action represents a concrete commitment by the Indonesian National Police, particularly Satgas Operation Peace Cartenz, to dismantle illegal weapon and ammunition distribution networks in Papua. The police, through Satgas Operation Peace Cartenz, will continue to strengthen internal supervision and accelerate action against anyone involved, to create a safe, conducive security environment free from armed threats.
