Jayapura Regent Encourages Youth to Advance the Economy Through MSMEs

Jayapura, May 4, 2025 – Jayapura Regent Yunus Wonda has called on young people in his region to actively participate in developing the local economy through micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This appeal was conveyed during an event held in Jayapura on May 2, 2025, as part of the regional government’s efforts to promote economic self-reliance based on local potential.

The event was attended by Regent Yunus Wonda, alongside local youth and entrepreneurial communities.

The regent urged young people to seize the opportunities presented by small businesses as drivers of economic growth. He also emphasized the local government’s commitment to supporting these initiatives through skill training, business mentoring, and accessible financing options.

The event, held on Friday, May 2, 2025, marked the launch of a series of MSME development programs targeting the youth of Jayapura Regency.

The activities took place in Jayapura, focusing primarily on reaching youth in rural areas.

According to Yunus Wonda, strengthening the local economy through MSMEs is a key strategy to create job opportunities and reduce dependence on external economies. The initiative also aims to empower young people to become independent and innovative economic players.

The Jayapura Regency Government plans to offer various skill training programs, provide business mentorship, and facilitate access to micro-financing. Additionally, policies have been implemented to restrict the establishment of modern retail stores like Alfamart and Alfamidi to protect the sustainability of small community businesses.

These efforts, said Yunus Wonda, reflect the government’s commitment to creating an inclusive economic ecosystem that supports the growth of MSMEs. “Young people are the future of Jayapura, and we must provide them with opportunities to thrive through innovation and hard work,” he emphasized.

With this approach, it is hoped that more young people will be inspired to start their own businesses, contributing to strengthening the region’s economy.
