Papuan Student Brings Honor to Indonesia at International Nuclear Competition

Yekaterinburg, Russia – Jamie Gobai, a student from Papua and member of the Indonesian Papuan Student Association (IMAPA) in Russia, brought pride to Indonesia on the international stage. Alongside his teammate Irwan Mustajab, Jamie secured a top-three position at the prestigious AtomSkills 2025 competition, organized by Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation, Rosatom.
This annual event brings together top participants from over 15 countries and focuses on nuclear industry technologies, including electrical installations and PLC programming. AtomSkills is widely recognized as a benchmark competition for young professionals in the nuclear sector.
Despite having only one week to prepare, Jamie and Irwan delivered an outstanding performance. They held their own against competitors from other countries who had significantly more time to prepare. The Indonesian team originally consisted of five members, but only Jamie and Irwan remained through to the final stages.
“This isn’t just about the competition—it’s about proving that with determination, hard work, and confidence, anyone can stand on the international stage,” Jamie Gobai stated following the event.
Jamie’s achievement is not just a personal milestone; it demonstrates that Indonesian students, including those from often-overlooked regions, have tremendous potential to compete globally.
The journey of Jamie and Irwan serves as an inspiration for young Indonesians to keep learning and striving. It is hoped that both the government and the public will offer greater support to high-achieving youth like Jamie so that such accomplishments can continue in the future.
