Thousands of Christians in Mimika Held an Easter Torch March to Welcome the Resurrection of Christ

Mimika, Central Papua— Thousands of Christians from various church denominations in Mimika Regency, Central Papua, enthusiastically participated in the Easter torchlight parade held in order to welcome the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Savior. This activity was held on Sunday morning, April 3, 2025, starting at 03.00 WIT.
The torch march held by the Fellowship of Churches in Mimika (PGGM) started from Yos Sudarso Street, precisely in front of the Office of the Ministry of Religion of Mimika Regency, and ended in the courtyard of the Eme Neme Yauware Building — one of the important icons in Timika City.
This activity was solemn and festive, marked by the enthusiasm of thousands of participants carrying torches while singing praise songs. Spiritual nuances and the spirit of togetherness seem to color along the march route.
Assistant III Setda Mimika Regency, Evert Hindom, who was also present in this activity, expressed his hope that the Easter moment would not only be an annual ceremony, but also a momentum to deepen faith and strengthen brotherhood among each other.
“Through this Easter celebration, I invite all Christians in Mimika to live the meaning of Christ’s resurrection by continuing to spread love, affection, and goodness in daily life. Hopefully the values of Easter will strengthen our brotherhood in building this area,” he said.
To ensure that the activities went smoothly and safely, Police officers from the Mimika Police Station were deployed to carry out security and traffic regulations during the parade procession. The presence of the apparatus makes the course of the activities run in an orderly manner without significant disturbances.
This Easter torch relay is not only a symbol of Christ’s victory over death, but also a reflection of the spirit of unity and hope for the people of Mimika to continue to maintain peace and harmony in the midst of diversity.
