TNI-Polri Quick Response in Handling Murder Victims in Yahukimo

Yahukimo, Papua — The humanitarian tragedy again covered the Papua region, precisely in the Muara Kum gold storage area and Location 22, Yahukimo Regency. In an emergency situation and full of limitations, the TNI-Polri Joint Team and the task force Operation Peace Cartenz moved quickly to evacuate the victims of violence carried out by armed groups in the area.

Two bodies that were successfully evacuated on Thursday, April 10, 2025, became a real proof of how brutal the attack was. The body arrived at Dekai Hospital around 15.30 WIT in a worsening condition due to the ongoing decomposition process. The medical team led by dr. Glent M Nurtanio immediately conducted an examination and a visa to identify the wound and the victim’s condition. Given the limitations of body storage facilities, the hospital suggested that the funeral process be carried out as soon as possible to prevent the risk of spreading infection.

“Situations like this are not easy. But we try our best so that the body is handled properly and with dignity,” said dr. Glent.

The identification process was carried out thoroughly by the DVI team from Bhayangkara Jayapura Hospital, led by Head rumkit Bhayangkara Level II Jayapura, AKBP Dr. dr. Rommy Sebastian He emphasized the importance of matching antemortem and postmortem data so that the victim’s family rights are still respected. Although the victim’s physical condition is very difficult, the team still follows strict procedures for the accuracy of the results.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations Task Force for Operation Peace Cartenz 2025, Cheif Commissioner of Police Yusuf Sutejo, said that the evacuation is still ongoing despite being constrained by extreme weather and difficult access to the location. Five bodies are still in Binki and are scheduled to be evacuated in the near future. An additional one body has also been transferred to RSUD Dekai, and another to Boven Digoel.

Not only focusing on the dead, the Task Force also managed to save the Head of Dani Village and his wife, Mrs. Geby, who was previously held hostage by an armed group. Both of them have been evacuated and underwent a medical examination at Dekai Airport on Friday morning, April 11, 2025.

In the midst of pressure and threats, the joint team still shows solidarity and steadfastness in carrying out humanitarian tasks. They ensure that every victim receives fair and humane treatment, and that the Yahukimo community can feel safe again.

This effort is part of Operation Peace Cartenz commitment, not only in maintaining security, but also in taking care of humanitarian values in the midst of a conflict that has not yet ended. The joint apparatus is still pursuing the perpetrators of the attack, while maintaining stability at vulnerable points so that the situation does not get worse.
