Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government Strengthens Six National Strategic Policies for Regional Development

WAMENA (ANTARA) – The Provincial Government of Papua Pegunungan is committed to strengthening six national strategic policies in the region, covering aspects of politics, security, economic development, infrastructure, human resources (HR), and institutional capacity. The Acting Governor of Papua Pegunungan, Velix V. Wanggai, stated that these policies are essential for accelerating development in the newly autonomous region.
“The national policies that need to be implemented in Papua Pegunungan include strengthening the political and security sectors, economic development, HR, and enhancing institutional capacities,” Velix said when contacted from Wamena on Friday.
In the medium-term regional development plan (RPJMD) designed for the next five years, the Papua Pegunungan provincial government has set a clear policy direction. “Each province in Indonesia must have a major theme in its RPJMD. We have chosen the theme of accelerating development in the agriculture, tourism, and special interest sectors,” he explained.
Further elaborating, Velix expressed that this theme is expected to lead Papua Pegunungan toward greater prosperity. He emphasized the region’s fertile land, which significantly supports agricultural development. “The community must focus on enhancing the agricultural sector with government support. Additionally, we also possess extraordinary tourism potential that needs to be strengthened to improve the welfare of the people,” he added.
Besides these two main themes, Velix highlighted a third theme related to the development of special interests, which includes sports and cultural arts. “We hope that with the foundation laid over the past few years, this will become a strong force for the future development of Papua Pegunungan, allowing the people across the eight districts to prosper,” he concluded.
