Nikson Matuan, Shooting Suspect in Yalimo, Handed Over to Wamena Prosecutor’s Office

Jayawijaya— Shooting suspect Nikson Matuan, also known as Okoni Siep, was officially handed over by investigators from the Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force and the Papua Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office on Friday (March 21, 2025).
The second-phase handover process took place at the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office under tight security from the Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force.
Nikson Matuan was involved in several acts of violence, including a shooting that killed Muktar Layuk and injured Korinus Yohanis Wentken on November 5, 2024, on the Trans Wamena–Jayapura Road, Hobakma Village, Yalimo Regency. He was also responsible for the shooting that killed Brigadier Police (Anumerta) Iqbal, a member of the Brimob Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force, on January 17, 2025, at the same location.
The suspect was arrested by the Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force in Yalimo Regency on February 2, 2025, after being on the wanted list (DPO).
Head of Damai Cartenz-2025 Operations, Police Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Operations Commander Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., stated that Nikson would be charged under Article 1 Paragraph (1) of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code (KUHP).
“After the handover process was completed, Nikson Matuan was escorted to Wamena Class II B Prison for detention. He will then undergo detention as a suspect under the custody of the Jayawijaya District Prosecutor’s Office,” said Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for Damai Cartenz-2025 Operations, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., emphasized that this step is part of the commitment to law enforcement.
“This is part of our effort to uphold justice and ensure the suspect is held accountable before the law,” he stated.
He added that the Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force would continue to take firm action against criminals to maintain security and order in Papua.
