Nikson Matuan is suspected of being involved in a series of violent acts in Papua. He is also accused of being involved in the shooting that claimed the life of Brigpol Anumerta Iqbal, a member of the Brimob unit assigned to the Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, on January 17, 2025, at the same location.

The suspect was apprehended by the Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force on February 2, 2025, after being placed on the wanted list (DPO). In a press conference, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., the Head of Ops Damai Cartenz-2025, disclosed that Nikson will face multiple charges, including Article 1 Paragraph (1) of Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 and Article 55 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP).

“Following this handover process, Nikson Matuan will be escorted to Class II B Wamena Prison for detention. He will subsequently undergo the detention process as a suspect for the Jayawijaya District Attorney’s Office,” Brigadier General Faizal stated.

Meanwhile, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., the Head of Public Relations for the Ops Damai Cartenz-2025 Task Force, emphasized the importance of this action as part of the commitment to law enforcement.

“This action is part of our efforts to uphold justice, ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions in court,” he explained.
