Bripka Batias Yikwa, Police Officer in Keerom: Help Children’s Literacy to Nurturing Farmers

Bripka Batias Yikwa, a police officer from the Keerom Police Criminal Investigation Unit, showed extraordinary dedication in his service to the people of Kampung Baburia, Keerom, Papua. Not only carrying out his duties as a law enforcement officer, he also plays an active role in improving children’s literacy and empowering local residents through agriculture.
As a form of concern for education, Bripka Batias established a reading house or library in Baburia Village. With these facilities, he hopes to increase children’s interest in reading and open their horizons to the outside world. In addition, he also actively guides the community in farming by forming three groups of farmers in the village.
For his dedication, Bripka Batias was proposed by a resident of Keerom, Minister of Agriculture Marthen Erelak, as a candidate in the Hoegeng Awards 2025. This award program appreciates the police who serve sincerely and give a positive impact to the community. Bripka Batias is also included in the list of candidates for Hoegeng Corner 2024, a program that features an inspirational police figure in Indonesia.
Minister of Minister Marthen Erelak assessed Bripka Batias as a police figure who not only carries out his duties as a law enforcement officer, but also as a community servant who cares about the welfare of the residents. “Bripka Batias is always present in the community, helping selflessly. He often helps underprivileged people, especially the elderly, and always motivates children to continue learning,”* said the Minister of Minister.
In addition, the Minister of Agriculture also appreciated the accuracy of Bripka Batias in religious life. “He is a figure who is obedient to worship. Every week they come to the church and often invite residents to maintain security and order in the environment,” he added.
Responding to the appreciation given to him, Bripka Batias stated that what he did was a form of community service, not just to get an award.
“I just want to help the community. Children here must have access to good education, and residents must be able to be independent in meeting their needs. I believe that with teamwork and togetherness, we can create a real change,” said Bripka Batias.
He also hopes that what he has done can inspire many parties to care more about the surrounding environment. “Security and welfare are not only the duty of the police, but our shared responsibility. Hopefully in the future more parties will be involved in building a better society,” he concluded.
With all the efforts that have been made, Bripka Batias Yikwa is not only a symbol of humanistic police, but also an example for the community in building a better life. His dedication shows that the police not only play a role in maintaining security, but also in building and benefiting the community.
