Governor Meki Nawipa Promises Free Education and Access to Quality Education in Central Papua

Nabire — The Governor of Central Papua Province, Meki Frits Nawipa, has expressed his commitment to building the region with a focus on the importance of education for the future of the children in Central Papua. During his inaugural address on Friday, March 7, 2025, Governor Nawipa highlighted one of his top priorities: ensuring access to free education for all children in the region, without exception.
According to Nawipa, this free education policy will not only apply to children of Papuan descent but also to all children living in Central Papua. “I want to ensure that free education is available to all children in Central Papua, regardless of their ethnic background,” he emphasized. Governor Nawipa responded to some who believed that this policy would only apply to Indigenous Papuans (OAP), clarifying that the initiative is inclusive and for everyone.
In addition, Governor Nawipa also announced plans to establish a state university in the capital city of Central Papua Province. “We are currently reviewing data and planning to ensure that children in Central Papua can access quality education without the burden of costs,” he said. Nawipa added that this initiative is a crucial step in preparing a workforce ready to compete on both a national and international scale.
During the event, Governor Nawipa also stressed the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, including the Civil Servants (ASN), to drive the region’s progress. He urged ASN to improve their performance and provide the best public service. “ASN must be at the forefront in providing optimal service to the people,” he stated.
With a vision for holistic and inclusive development, Governor Nawipa hopes that Central Papua will experience rapid growth, progressing toward a more prosperous and advanced region.
