Polsek Kurima Officer Shot by Unknown Gunmen in Yahukimo, Victim in Stable Condition

Yahukimo – A personnel from Polsek Kurima in Yahukimo Regency, Papua Pegunungan, is suspected to have been the victim of a shooting by two unidentified individuals (OTK) on Saturday night (February 1st). The victim, Aipda Syam (43), who serves as the Head of Intelligence at Polsek Kurima, sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Wamena General Hospital in stable condition.

The incident occurred around 7:00 PM WIT when two suspected perpetrators arrived at the victim’s kiosk under the pretense of intending to shop. When the victim asked about the items they wanted to purchase, one of the assailants suddenly pointed a weapon, believed to be a homemade firearm. The victim heard the sound of a gunshot before attempting to evade the attack. Realizing that he had been shot, the victim immediately turned off the lights and grabbed a revolver he had hidden under his pillow.

The victim then briefly fought back by firing his weapon at the assailant before quickly heading to a nearby TNI post to seek refuge. Shortly after the incident, personnel from the Jayawijaya Sat Intelkam, led by Ipda I Gede Cipta Adi Permana, immediately began further investigation at the Wamena General Hospital.

Preliminary medical examinations showed no foreign objects in the victim’s wound area, and therefore, the exact cause of the injury has not yet been confirmed by the medical team.

The police suspect that the shooter is part of the armed criminal group (KKB) Ndugama, which had previously been detected in Kampung Wulagaima, Kurima District. Based on initial analysis, it is likely that the assailants were aware that Polsek Kurima was unoccupied and realized that the victim was a police officer.

Brigadier General Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., the Head of Operations for Cartenz Peace 2025, emphasized that the police will take firm action against the armed criminal groups that threaten public safety and police personnel.

“We are investigating the identities of the perpetrators and will continue to pursue them. Security forces will increase patrols and security in areas prone to disturbances from the KKB,” stated Brigadier General Faizal.

Currently, the Cartenz Peace Intel Ops Task Force has taken strategic steps, including coordination with the Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum) to track the communication of the suspects, who are believed to be affiliated with the KKB. Additionally, the role of intelligence networks is being optimized to detect the whereabouts of the KKB.

The Spokesperson for the Cartenz Peace Operations Task Force 2025, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and not be provoked. He also called on residents who have information about the KKB’s whereabouts to report it to the police immediately.

“We urge the public to stay vigilant and immediately report to the authorities if they notice any suspicious activity around them. Cooperation between the community and security forces is crucial to maintaining safety,” emphasized Kombes Yusuf.

The police also requested that all personnel in Yahukimo increase their readiness and implement a layered security system while on duty in the field.

The investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive and capture the perpetrators responsible for the attack.
