“Papua Land of Peace: Residents Call for Unity to Preserve National Integrity”

Jayapura, Papua – The people of Papua have once again reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace as the foundation for strengthening national unity and cohesion. During an event titled “Papua Land of Peace” held on Tuesday (14/1), hundreds of residents gathered at the public square in Jayapura City to demonstrate their shared resolve to uphold harmony.

This event aimed to foster a sense of solidarity amidst the various social challenges faced by Papua. The peaceful gathering featured speeches from traditional leaders, religious figures, and youth representatives who urged all elements of society to prioritize dialogue and tolerance in addressing differences.

The event was attended by diverse groups, including traditional leaders like Ondoafi Yanto Eluay, interfaith religious leaders, indigenous community representatives, and Papua’s youth. Women leaders from indigenous communities also voiced their roles in promoting harmony in the region.

The gathering took place at the public square of Jayapura City, Papua, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time.

The initiative was organized as a response to concerns about potential conflicts that could disrupt stability in Papua. The people of Papua sought to emphasize that peace is an essential element in safeguarding Indonesia’s unity as a diverse nation.

The event began with an interfaith prayer session, followed by traditional dances as a tribute to local culture. In his speech, Ondoafi Yanto Eluay stated, “Papua is our home. Peace is not the responsibility of one group but of all communities.” Religious leaders also stressed the importance of love and tolerance in fostering harmonious relationships.

The gathering concluded with participants singing the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya, accompanied by the raising of the Indonesian flag as a symbol of unity. The chant “Papua Land of Peace” resonated as a closing message, inspiring attendees to continue safeguarding peace in the Land of Cenderawasih.

This event is expected to serve as a tangible step in building solidarity and brotherhood among the people of Papua and as an example for other regions in Indonesia to follow.
