Indigenous Leader Urges Unity and Respect for Election Results in Papua
Papua, Indonesia – Benhur Yaboisembut, Secretary of the Moy Tribal Council, has called on the people of Papua to respect the outcomes of the upcoming regional elections, which will determine local leaders, including regents, vice regents, mayors, deputy mayors, governors, and deputy governors.
“Whoever is elected, let us all give our support, as they are the ones entrusted by the people,” Benhur emphasized.
Highlighting the diversity of opinions during elections as normal, Benhur urged the community not to let these differences create divisions. “Let’s not turn differences into hostility. Instead, let’s unite and work together to support the development of a better Papua,” he stated firmly.
Benhur also stressed the importance of collective efforts in maintaining security in the region. “Security is not solely the responsibility of the police and military; the community also plays a vital role in creating a safe environment,” he explained.
Expressing gratitude to the Indonesian National Police and Armed Forces for their role in ensuring peaceful elections, Benhur acknowledged their dedication and neutrality throughout the electoral process in Papua.
As Human Rights Day approaches on December 10, Benhur urged the public to remain calm and not be influenced by provocative rumors or propaganda. “Let us commemorate Human Rights Day within the established framework, avoiding provocation by irresponsible individuals,” he advised.
Benhur’s call for unity and cooperation underscores the importance of mutual respect and collective responsibility for peace and progress in Papua amidst the region’s challenges.
