Strategy of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to Realize Peaceful Regional Elections in the Land of Papua
Assistant for Election and Political Management to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Brigadier General TNI Hariyadi, provided a number of strategies for dealing with the regional elections in Papua so that they run safely and smoothly, starting with the need for synergistic steps between the TNI and Polri to secure areas prone to violence, including anticipating potential attacks from armed groups.
He believes that strong and coordinated security will help create a more comfortable situation during the regional elections.
Then, it is also necessary to map areas with a high level of vulnerability and intensive monitoring, especially in areas where armed violence still frequently occurs.
“If an incident occurs, it can be responded to quickly, so that it can be a preventive measure so that no groups try to carry out the regional election process,” said Brigadier General Hariyadi in a Public Discussion of Challenges and Solutions for Realizing Peaceful and Democratic Regional Elections in the Land of Papua in Jayapura City.
His party also detected a number of areas prone to conflict, especially areas that use the noken system. “The noken system brings its own challenges because there are differences in understanding about its use and potential conflicts of interest between groups or parties with an interest in elections, including parties who have political or economic influence in the region, which can trigger internal conflicts,” he explained.
