Facts About the Raid on the KKB Headquarters in Paniai That Resulted in KKB Member’s Death

Paniai – The Task Force (Satgas) for Operation Damai Cartenz 2024 announced that joint TNI-Polri forces successfully raided the headquarters of an armed criminal group (KKB) in the Bibida District, Paniai Regency, Central Papua.

In the raid, the authorities shot dead a TNI deserter who had joined the KKB, Danis Murib. The operation, conducted on Friday (June 14), was followed by a sweep that uncovered Danis Murib’s body at the KKB headquarters.

Here are some key facts about the raid on the KKB headquarters in Paniai that resulted in the death of a TNI defector:

Authorities Pursue KKB Led by Undius Kogoya

The Head of Ops Damai Cartenz-2024, Kombes Faizal Ramadhani, explained that this operation was part of law enforcement efforts against KKB members in Paniai. The operation lasted three days, from Friday (June 14) to Monday (June 17).

“We from the Satgas Ops Damai Cartenz-2024 continue to pursue the KKB group led by Undius Kogoya, who has been actively carrying out attacks and criminal activities in Paniai Regency,” said Kombes Faizal in his statement on Monday (June 17).

During the raid, the authorities shot dead a member of the KKB suspected of belonging to the group led by Undius Kogoya. The KKB member’s body was found after the authorities took control of the headquarters and conducted a sweep.

“The TNI-Polri forces successfully shot dead a KKB member suspected of being part of the KKB Intan Jaya led by Undius Kogoya,” he added.

KKB Member Shot Dead, Involved in Murder of Minibus Driver

Kombes Faizal revealed that the raid was carried out after the KKB had committed several criminal acts over the past three months. Most recently, the KKB killed a minibus driver from South Sulawesi (Sulsel) named Rusli (40) and burned his vehicle.

“The operation targeted the KKB group led by Undius Kogoya, which has disrupted public order in Paniai for the past three months,” said Kombes Faizal to reporters on Monday (June 17, 2024).

“The most recent incident was the murder, shooting, and burning of a minibus driver in the Bibida district,” he said.

During the operation, Faizal said, members of the KKB led by Undius Kogoya fled into the forest.

“When we took decisive action, they fled the headquarters towards the forest area of Intan Jaya Regency,” he revealed.

Body Identified as Danis Murib

The Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command (Kogabwilhan) III, Lt. Gen. TNI Richard Tampubolon, revealed that the OPM member shot dead in Paniai was Danis Murib, a TNI deserter.

“It has been confirmed that the individual was Danis Murib,” said Richard Tampubolon in his statement on Monday (June 17).

Richard stated that the death of Danis Murib would weaken the OPM movement and positively impact security stability in Papua.

“This is to ensure the smooth progress of development in Papua,” he added.

Danis Murib Held the Rank of Private

Richard explained that Danis Murib held the rank of private second class (Prada) in the TNI. He was previously a member of the Satgas Yonif 527/Baladibya Yudha Kodam V/Brawijaya.

“Danis Murib deserted from the Moanemani Baru Post in Kamu District, Dogiyai Regency, Central Papua, on April 14, 2024, at 10:20 AM WIT,” he added.
