Jayapura- The process stages in implementing the 2024 Pilkada (Regional Head Election) are underway, voting in the election of governors, regents and city mayors is also set to be held on November 27 2024 simultaneously throughout Indonesia.
Chairman of the Sentani Tribal Traditional Council, Orgenes Kaway, interpreted the momentum of the regional elections as an opportunity for the community to take part in directly determining their regional leaders by bringing hope for prosperity (29/5).
“The regional elections cannot just be called a routine five-year agenda, because there is a big meaning in it. “The community is absolutely given the right to be able to determine its leaders according to their individual expectations,” said Orgenes.
However, Orgenes Kaway emphasized that every leader who is elected will all be the best sons/daughters that Papua currently has.
“Whoever is elected, they will be the best Papuan children and ready to lead. “So there is nothing to debate, especially if there are actions that disrupt the security situation,” stressed Orgenes.
This community figure from Bambar Village at the foot of the Cycloop Mountains also said that there are special privileges for Papua in holding general elections. It is hoped that the direct involvement of Indigenous Papuans (OAP) will have a significant influence on the region.
“The law stipulates that Papuans will definitely be involved in this process. This means that each elected leader already understands the background or characteristics of his region. “It is hoped that this will accelerate progress for Papua in general,” he said.
Orgenes Kaway, who is known to be running for regent of Jayapura Regency, on his occasion spoke about the importance of maintaining a healthy democratic climate in the process of implementing the simultaneous regional elections in 2024.
“Active community involvement will be an illustration of the implementation of our mature democracy. “Of course it also needs to be accompanied by efforts to maintain peace, so that the regional elections can run safely and peacefully,” said Orgenes Kaway.
