Election in Papua Deemed Conducive, Pastor Yan Wabrauw: Appreciation for All Involved Elements

Jayapura, Papua – The implementation of the 2024 General Election (Election) in Papua has received deep appreciation from several local community figures. Despite some minor incidents that occurred during the election process, overall, the election implementation in Papua is considered to have been conducted smoothly and under control.
One of the Papua figures who expressed this appreciation is Pastor Yan P Wabrauw, a Papua Religious Figure known for his concern for development and stability in his region. In his statement, Pastor Yan expressed his gratitude to all parties who contributed to maintaining security and smoothness in the conduct of the election in Papua.
“In this election, we can see good performance from the security forces in securing the democratic process. Although there were some minor incidents, it did not disrupt the overall course of the election. We highly appreciate the hard work of the security forces in maintaining order and security in Papua during the election process,” said Yan.
Pastor Yan Wabrauw also added that not only the security forces but also all elements of Papua’s society, local governments, figures, and political parties actively played a role in creating a conducive atmosphere during the election period.
“We are thankful to all parties who have worked together for the success of this election. Hopefully, the election results that will be announced reflect the desires and hopes of the Papua people for better development in the future,” he added.
Meanwhile, the General Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia is scheduled to hold the national vote tally recapitulation for the remaining two provinces, Papua and Papua Mountains, on the last day, tomorrow, Wednesday (20/3/2024) morning.
“As usual, the voting tally recapitulation typically begins at 10:00 in the morning,” said Idham Holik, Coordinator of the Technical Division for Election Organizers at the Indonesian KPU, when confirmed by Kompas.com, Tuesday (19/3/2024).
Officials from the KPU of Papua and Papua Mountains are said to be flown tonight from their respective regions to Jakarta around 10:00 PM local time. As of the writing of this article, commissioners from these two provinces are still in Papua to complete the vote tally recapitulation at the provincial level, which is still ongoing.
