Uncontrolled Situation, Puncak Police Chief Confirms Plane Shooting Action by KKB in Ilaga District

Jayapura – The Armed Criminal Group (KKB) again disrupted aviation activities in Papua by shooting five times at planes that were about to land at Aminggaru Airport, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency, on Friday (23/02).
This information was confirmed by Puncak Police Chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Punia, S. Sos, via cell phone. He stated that the incident occurred at around 09.30 WIT from the direction of Snake Hill, and TNI-Polri officers immediately responded to carry out a search but it is thought that the group had fled.
“From the information we received, there were no casualties in this action. However, the losses are still in the process of being coordinated with the airport and other related agencies. “We also don’t know what type of airline or aircraft was the target,” said the Police Chief.
Due to the incident, airport activities have been stopped to prevent worse incidents from occurring. Despite this, community activities around the airport and in Ilaga City continue to run smoothly as usual.
“TNI-Polri personnel are still on standby around the airport and vulnerable points around Ilaga District to anticipate possible further action from this group, and we are increasing Joint TNI-Polri Patrol activities to maintain a safe and peaceful situation in Puncak Regency,” he added.
Security forces continue to make maximum efforts to overcome this threat and protect the safety of the community and public facilities.
