Written Letter to KKB, New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs: Release Mehrtens

Papua- New Zealand’s immediate transformation was a citizen and Susi Air pilot, Philip Mehrtens, who had been held hostage by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya in Papua for a year.

In a written statement, New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters emphasized that his country is urging the armed group faction of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) to immediately release Mehrtens.

“We strongly urge them to detain Phillip to release him immediately and without causing harm. His continued incarceration will benefit no one,” Peters said.

Peters said the New Zealand government continues to coordinate and cooperate extensively with authorities in Indonesia to ensure Mehrtens’ safe bail.
