Joint Forces Pursue Perpetrators of Police Weapons Confiscation in Puncak Regency

Jayapura – Joint forces are currently pursuing the perpetrator of the robbery of a police officer’s weapon which occurred while the officers were serving the community at the Ilaga Market Complex, Kimak Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency.

This incident occurred on Thursday (01/02) and was confirmed by the Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom.

According to an official statement from the Head of Public Relations, the incident started when the Head of Pol KP3 Air Ipda Slamet M. Korisano and 2 of his personnel wanted to deliver a 2-wheeled vehicle belonging to the BKD Service from Ilaga Airport to the Market Complex using a truck. When they arrived at the scene, an attack immediately occurred by an unknown person (OTK) who quickly opened the truck door and confiscated the personnel’s weapons.

“Bripda Paulus Ongirwalu tried to detain the perpetrator, but the perpetrator managed to escape with the weapon after putting up stiff resistance,” said Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo.

Without hesitation, KP3 Air personnel backed up by the ODC Action Task Force and the BIN Eagle Task Force immediately carried out a chase and search around the incident area. It is estimated that the perpetrator fled towards Mundidok Village, North Gome District, Puncak Regency, which is also the headquarters of the armed group (KKB).

“Some time after the incident, there was still gunfire in an effort to arrest the perpetrator who confiscated the police officers’ weapons,” explained Police Commissioner. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo.

The police continue to tighten security and make maximum efforts to arrest the perpetrators and return the confiscated weapons so that security and public order in the area can be well maintained.
