Papuan Mountains Traditional Figure Urges Residents to Ignore Beny Wenda’s Invitation

Papua- A traditional figure from Jayawijaya, Papua Mountain Province, Hengky Heselo, appealed to all people not to respond to provocative invitations or statements from Beny Wenda that could disturb security and give voice to the community ahead of the 2024 simultaneous elections.

“With all due respect, I, Hengky Heselo, as Head of Lantipo Village and Tribal Head, would like to appeal to all Papuan people not to take Beny Wenda’s invitation seriously. That is not something that is true. “Let’s make the election a success according to the motto of safety, peace and comfort,” he said.

According to him, responding to the provocative call from Beny Wenda who does not live in Indonesia, especially in Papua, would be detrimental to society. This call is not constructive, in fact it can divide and bring suffering. Currently, in the Land of Papua, people live in harmony and peace with intensified development from the central government through the Special Autonomy program.

“If anyone doesn’t want to take part in the election and hears the call from Beny Wenda, I as the Head of Lantipo Village and Tribal Head in Jayawijaya will continue to take part in the election according to existing regulations. We will not violate the rules of the Republic of Indonesia. “Let’s not be provoked or influenced by anyone who wants to take advantage of all of us,” he stressed.

Hengky Heselo believes that Beny Wenda’s various statements on social media or mass media regarding life in Papua do not have a strong basis. His accusations and accusations are not in accordance with current reality, considering that development on Earth of Cenderawasih is increasingly massive, especially with the current government which is modern and different from the previous decades.

“If Beny Wenda wants to talk about independence, please come to Papua. Don’t talk about Papua from outside other people’s jurisdiction. That’s not allowed, because provocation only creates unrest. I spoke firmly so that Beny Wenda would stop. “We already live in peace,” he concluded.
