Police Arrest Perpetrator of Burning Youtefa Market
Jayapura – The Jayapura Police National Operations Team succeeded in arresting a student with the initials RN for setting fires around Youtefa market, Abepura District, Jayapura City, Papua. Happened on Sunday (7/1/24).
The arrest of the RN perpetrator was based on information from the network that the alleged perpetrator was at the Sunny Abepura Hotel, on Monday (8/1/24).
Jayapura Police Chief, Police Commissioner Victor D Mackbon, in a press release at the Jayapura Police Headquarters Hall, said that the perpetrator had been named a suspect. His party was currently investigating whether there were other suspects in the case.
“The perpetrator’s motive was to cause chaos in Jayapura City,” said the Police Chief
Kombes Victor continued, in the arson case, his party had examined 11 witnesses and secured evidence from CCTV footage, 1 Honda Beat motorbike, a black jacket, fire lighters and burned items.

He added that until now the perpetrator is languishing in the Jayapura Police detention cell and is subject to Article 187 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code with the threat of 12 years’ imprisonment.
“He asked for cooperation from residents to create a conducive situation and report to the security forces if there is anything suspicious,” he concluded.
