Series of Fires in Abepura, Police Chief: Strongly Suspected of Deliberate Factors

Jayapura City Police,- The series of fire incidents that occurred around Youtefa Market this morning (Sunday, 7/1) is strongly suspected to be the result of deliberate factors or elements, in other words someone started the fire.
This was stated by the Jayapura City Police Chief, Commissioner Pol. Dr. Victor D. Mackbon, S.H., S.IK., M.H., M.Si when interviewed in Abepura, Sunday (7/1) afternoon.
The Police Chief explained that initial information came in at around 05.30 WIT that a fire had occurred around the Bunga Youtefa Hotel, then it spread to 4 points, including inside Youtefa Market, specifically at the unloading claw stall.
“We will update the exact data later, members are still working in the field collecting the data,” said the Police Chief.
The Police Chief said that the efforts that had been made to respond to the consecutive fire incidents were that his party was supported by Kodim 1701 Jayapura, Satrol Lantamal X Jayapura together with the City Government through the Fire Department. “All our facilities that can help extinguish the fire were immediately deployed until the fire could be extinguished,” he added.
“Every fire point or fire location is currently in the process of being wetted or cooled so that it can be ensured that there is no fire remaining at the location of the incident. It can also be seen that some people have already evacuated their belongings that can still be saved,” said KBP Victor Mackbon.
He also added that some of his personnel were still at the scene to ensure that the public received services from the National Police. “Personnel are still at the crime scene to provide security and ensure that the fire is no longer visible,” concluded the Police Chief.
