Papua Police Denies OPM Shot Two Police Officers

Jayapura – The Papuan Police have denied the statement by TPNPB-OPM spokesperson Sebby Sambom regarding two police officers who were killed during the attack on the Gold Panning Camp in Kawe Village, Minning Dokter 36 Location, Gunung Bintang Regency, Sunday (27/8/23).
“We can confirm that of the 7 victims of the attack, 2 who died were civilians and not members of the police as mentioned, we have carried out an in-depth investigation to uncover the perpetrators of the incident,” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police, Kombes. Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo, S.H., S.I.K., M.Kom., Tuesday (29/8/23).
The Head of Public Relations explained, in this incident two residents in the Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua Mountains, were killed by unknown persons (OTK). The incident also resulted in five people with the initials OB (45), JM (49), JFB (21), AL (29) and R (56) being evacuated to Boven Digoel Regency after sustaining injuries.
Sebby Sambom himself admitted that the attack was the work of TNPB-OPM. However, in his statement he stated that the two victims who died as a result of the attack were members of the Police and that the attack was aimed at expelling foreign companies and immigrants from Papua.
Therefore, said the Head of Public Relations, his party is currently conducting an in-depth investigation regarding this incident. In this way, it is hoped that similar incidents will not recur which could disturb the comfort of the people in Papua.
